To set off losses in SLTB, Railways and Postal Dept. last year

The Treasury has provided 11.07 billion rupees last year to set off the losses incurred by the Sri Lanka Transport Board, Railway Department and Postal Department. Ministry of Finance and Plan Implementation stated the given amount has been exceeded by 4.5 billion rupees.

19(13)To set off the operation losses of the SLTB the amount allocated was 3.54 billion rupees, while the Railway Department was given 4.98 billion rupees and Postal Department was allocated 2.54 billion rupees.

Sri Lanka’s  railways lost 4,768 million rupees in 2009 up 4.7 percent from an year earlier, which was more than its annual revenues, while carrying lower volumes of cargo and passengers, the Central Bank said in its annual report.Revenues rose 9.5 percent to 4,020 million from 3,671 million.
