Officials in several local authorities in the Southern Province attended a one-day training workshop on Financial Management in Urban Councils conducted by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) recently.
The training programme, held in Blue Fox Hotel, Hikkaduwa mainly for officials of Ambalangoda Urban Council on 27th February 20, was organised with the objective of improving the financial management in the councils thereby maintaining a more accountable urban council with good governance.
Among the participants were several officials representing Hikkaduwa , Weligama , Hambantota and Galle local authorities .
Former Asst. Auditor General , N H M Jayasuriya conducted the sessions presenting various resource documents including the Community monitoring toolkit and Grievance redress module, PS Act and Anti – Corruption Act.
Among the participants were Aruna Pradeep, – Chairman, Ambalangoda UC, D V Sunil – Secretary, Ambalangoda UC, Chandra Abeygunawardena, -Secretary, Weligama UC, Ms U A G Mendis -Deputy Commissioner, Galle MC, …….. Pathmasiri – Accountant, Ambalangoda UC, Ms T P Weragoda – Accountant, Weligama UC, and Wasana Tharangi – Community Development Officer, Ambalangoda UC. In all more than 30 officials were in attendance.
Dilshan Weerasinghe, and Gayan Liyange represented the TISL. The training also provided an opportunity for officials in the region to interact with the each other to form a much concrete network.
Secretary to the Weligama UC requested TISL to conduct a similar training programme for their council.
