Sri Lanka bribery officials arrest divisional secretary in Central Province while soliciting bribe

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption in Sri Lanka has arrested a divisional secretary from the Central Province over a bribery case.

The police have said that Bribery Commission officials have arrested Divisional Secretary of the Akurana, Sanifa Mohammad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The divisional secretary had allegedly taken the bribe promising to provide the permit for explosives to a villager who had needed it for a quarry.

The Bribery Commission officials had arrested the divisional secretary while he was accepting the bribe at his home.

The suspect had earlier worked as the Divisional Secretary of Muttur before moving to Akurana.
