Senior Journalists Trained on Land Issues

More than twenty senior journalists attached to National Media Institutes in Colombo underwent training on State Land Rights and Media Responsibilities on Sunday 24th March 2013 at Galle Face Hotel in Colombo.

The training workshop was jointly organized by Oxfam and Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) as an initiative under the ‘Right to Land for Small scale Farmers’ project.

Deputy secretary general of NCP, Keerthi Gamage conducted a session on government donated lands and challenges faced by the public when securing a land for themselves and senior lawyer Lakshan Dias made a presentation on Judicial oversight of (State) Land Rights.

A panel discussion also held during the workshop on current land issues. A.K. Thilakarathna former Secretary Ministry of Lands and Environmentalist Sajeewa Chamikara were the panelists at the discussion.

Lawyer Ravindranath Dabare also conducted session on media responsibilities in land issues.
