releaseDailyMirror

The Registrar of the Ampara District Courts was arrested yesterday morning when he accepted a gratification from an accused in a pending case.

The director of the Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Mr. S. P. Somaweera Lokuge said the registrar had accepted Rs. 3000 as bribe while promising an early settlement date for a case that was already decided favorably to the plaintiff.

“The plaintiff wanted to get the compensation for a fraud money transaction and the accused party could not pay the amount on the date set by the courts. Thereby the court decided to auction accuser’s property and plaintiff needed an early date for that” he said.

“Special team of  officials from CIABOC had arrested the registrar and he will be produced before a higher court as he is working for both District and Magistrate courts” he added.
