Cracking whip on Ministers of last Cabinet

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday cracked the whip on the Ministers of the last Cabinet, who were yet to hand over their vehicles. An angry President Rajapaksa said there was a Minister who still kept 35 vehicles and another 14.

The President ordered all those Ministers to hand over their vehicles as soon as possible, and warned that he would be compelled to take action against them if they fail to do so.

The President gave this warning to the Ministers at the government’s parliamentary group meeting yesterday.

However, he did not mention the names of the Ministers in this respect.

As a result of this situation, some Ministers of the new cabinet have been inconvenienced in discharging their duties. A Minister who wished to remain anonymous told Daily Mirror that he had to hire a vehicle from one of his friends under these circumstances.

During the election campaign, there were allegations that certain Ministers were using their official vehicles for electioneering.
