President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jayantha Wickramaratna to speed up investigations into the three detained journalists of the pro-JVP ‘Lanka’ newspaper and to ensure due process and show leniency, the government information department said today.
The three journalists were arrested in Deniyaya for allegedly trespassing an estate belonging to a country’s VVIP politician last week. Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) sleuths visit ‘Lanka’ office yesterday noon and recorded statements from the journalists.
Before that they summoned The Editor himself and recorded a statement . After few hours of questioning the editor had been released.
