No official confirmation of any presidential candidate withdrawing has been received by the Election Commission despite some candidates have announced their withdrawal from the fray.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror yesterday Consultant of Election Commissioner Bandula Kulatunge said the election commissioner had not received any formal letter from any candidate saying that they would be withdrawing from the upcoming Presidential Election.
However, media reports claimed that Myown Mustafa (Independent) and Ven. Battaramulla Seelarathana Thera of the Janasetha Peramuna have announced their withdrawal from the upcoming Presidential Election.
The Election Commissioner’s office also said that inquiries are on for the officials who were charged for violating election laws during the casting of postal votes.
