Cases have been filed against 9 directors of Ceylinco Seylan Property Limited who are accused of defrauding 23 investors of up to Rs. 27 million. The investors are reported to have deposited sums between Rs. 200,000 to 4 million in several accounts of the company, which promised various interest rates.

The investors have filed 23 private plaints which accuse the company of denying the depositors their dues on maturity of the sums deposited. According to the counsel, the company’s last interest payment to the depositors was on May 29 and no payments were made thereafter in terms of interest or capital. Ceylinco Seylan Property Limited subsequently shut down in August.
