Question time in Parliament yesterday proved to be a mundane affair with the government answering only four out of 15 questions posed by the Opposition.

In most cases the relevant subject Minister was not present to answer questions related to their Ministries, while in some cases even the MP asking the question was absent. The Ministers of Media, Fisheries, Local Government, Internal Administration and Defence, Nation Building, Agriculture and Irrigation were not present to answer questions, and on 11 occasions Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunewardane had to seek more time to submit the answers.

From the Opposition JVP MP Ranaweera Pathirana and UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella were not present in the House although their questions were recorded on the Parliament Order Papers.

The only two Ministers who answered their questions on the floor of the House were Minister of Supplementary Plantation Crops Development Dharmadasa Banda and Minister of Indigenous Medicine Tissa Karaliyedda.

The Labour Ministry and Power and Energy Ministry tabled their answers.
