Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) held a residential workshop for senior journalists and editors to share their experiences in Investigative Journalism and assist in the preparation of a manual and a tool kit on the subject.
The manual and tool kit is being developed by Anuruddha Bahal, Editor of Cobra Post in India, Ranga Kalansooriya and an editorial committee of TISL.
The workshop held at Ramada Resort, Kalutara from 11-14 June 2010 was a continuation of the training project initiated by TISL with the support of Fredrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) to enhance the capacity of regional journalists in investigative journalism.
Through this programme TISL intends to support enhanced professionalism in trainers. A key objective is to create a pool of professional trainers who could thereafter undertake to train journalists at provincial level in the specific branch of journalism.
The main topics discussed at the workshop were Good Governance and the role of media, Theories and General Methodologies of Investigative Journalism, Ethics vs facing potential dangers, Right to Information and Legal Frameworks, Methodology for web based Investigative Journalism, Corruption and Conflict sensitive/Reconciliation and Investigative Journalism.
Earlier Senior Journalists and Editors took part in a peer review of the first draft of the manual and the tool kit in Colombo few weeks back.
