Background

Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) is a National Chapter of Transparency International (TI), the leading global movement against corruption. TISL raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

The Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (ALAC), locally known as Shelter for Integrity, is a legal advice center launched by TISL in 2012. The Centers which are currently located in Colombo, Matara, Kandy and Vavuniya, provide free advice and support for the victims and witnesses of corruption and implemented advocacy-oriented programs based on the nature of complaints received and the ongoing governance issues in the country.

TISL is seeking a suitable individual for the position of Manager – Advocacy & Legal Advice Centre, Colombo, to lead the strategic direction and overall activity implementation of the Shelter for Integrity in Colombo. This position is based in Colombo with travel to relevant districts when required.

Scope of the role:

• Lead the operations of the Advocacy and Legal Advice Center in Colombo.
• Provide legal advice and support to victims and witnesses of corruption.
• Maintain a database of client and case information.
• Design and implement outreach, awareness-raising and advocacy-oriented activities to combat corruption, based on the ALAC database and ongoing governance issues.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with actors working on corruption-related issues.
• Build and maintain a strong network of committed individuals that can support the ALAC work, including the referral network.
• Initiate knowledge-generation activities based on emerging issues.

A suitable candidate would have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Law. Or be enrolled as an Attorney at Law.
• Be an empathetic listener with the passion to help those in need.
• At least 3 years of experience in the legal aid sector/ legal practice or in the civil society sector, ideally which experience in program management and budget utilization.
• Fluency in at least one local language and English. Fluency in both Sinhala and Tamil is an added advantage.
• Sound understanding of the anti-corruption and governance landscape in Sri Lanka.
• Must be computer literate.
