Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s private secretary is under investigation by the Presidential Special Investigation Unit for alleged misappropriation of funds and misuse of Ministry vehicles.
He is said to have surpassed even the Ministry Secretary’s privileges in the allocation of funds and use of official vehicles, Presidential Investigation Unit sources said.
He is said to have allocated one of the Ministry vehicles for the use of his wife with 230 litres petrol per month. In addition he had used a double cab and a driver belonging to the Ministry. He is also said to have used unlimited fuel.
Two retired army personnel, three female clerks, a driver and two minor employees attached to the Foreign Employment Bureau were also made to work for the private secretary, it was alleged.
Investigations had revealed that neither the Minister nor the Ministry Secretary was privy to the activities of the private secretary, sources further said.
