Grassroots Equipped!

Twenty eight grassroots organizations representing the districts of Anuradhapura, Ampara and Polonnaruwa that have come together to combat corruption and demand accountability were further strengthened through a systematic capacity building programme and networking mechanism during the three days residential training programme conducted from November 20th to 22nd at Villa Aqua Pearl in Moratuwa.

This training which is the first of a series of capacity building programmes laid the conceptual foundation to an analysis of the governance situation of the communities in a participatory reflective manner that enabled a deep understanding and consciousness raising among the communities of men and women on their rights and space.

The next step was then to organize these men and women through a leadership development programme and skill enhancement. The self reflection process adapted was ensured to enable individual participation and self development. While carrying out this training, emphasis was given to CBO strengthening through skills provision and collective vision building with them.

The training ended with a concert organised by the participants followed by a certificate distribution ceremony.

The ultimate aim of this training series is to bring together the smaller actors of the development field to be more equipped with knowledge and skill to take greater responsibility in organizing themselves and claiming their spaces in decision making.
