Corruption in the private sector is the theme of this year’s Global Corruption Report, the annual publication released by Transparency International (TI), the leading global movement against corruption.
The Report for 2009 will be officially launched on 23 September in New York J.C.Weliamuna executive director of Transparency International Srilanka said.
The Global Corruption Report documents in unique detail the many corruption risks for businesses, ranging from small entrepreneurs to big corporate conglomerates. It also discusses the most promising tools to tackle corruption in business, identifies pressing areas for reforms and outlines how companies, governments, investors, consumers, and other stakeholders can contribute to raise corporate integrity and meet the challenges that corruption offers to sustainable economic growth and development.
Topics covered in the Report include corruption inside the enterprise, responding to corporate fraud and conflicts of interest, needs-tailored strategies, addressing corruption risks in SMEs, high-risk industries and privatization programmes, holistic corporate integrity – aligning values, incentives and market signals, engaging owners, lenders and gatekeepers.
This report covers thematic issues pertaining to Governance and states Governance between 2007 and 2008.
Explaining the relevance of the theme, J.C.Weliamuna stated that corruption exacts a tremendous cost on entrepreneurial activity, economic opportunity and prosperity. It increases the risks and costs of starting and operating businesses, thwarts market performance and undermines the security of investments. Moreover, it erodes the public trust and support essential for business to thrive and generate gains for all.
Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL), the national chapter of Transparency International has made arrangements to release the Global Corruption Report, which is published by Cambridge University, simultaneously on the 23rd.

ට්‍රාන්ස්පේරන්සි ඉන්ටනැෂනල් ආයතනය විසින් එම වාර්තාව ලබන සැප්තැම්බර් 23 වනදා ඇමෙරිකා එක්සත් ජනපදයේ නිව්යෝක් නුවරදී නිකුත් කරනු ලබන බව ට්‍රාන්ස්පේරන්සි ඉන්ටනැෂනල් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආයතනයේ විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂ ෙජ්.සී. වැලිඅමුණ මහතා පැවසීය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ඇතුඵ ලෝකයේ රටවල් සියල්ලකම පවතිණ දූෂණ හා අක්‍රමිකතා පිළිබද තොරතුරු ඇතුලත් එම වාර්තාවේ මෙවර විශේෂත්වය වනුයේ පුද්ගලික ආයතන තුල දූෂණයන් සිදුවීමට ඇති ඉඩ ප්‍රස්ථා පිළිබදව සිදු කෙරෙන හෙලිදරව්වය.
කුඩා ව්‍යාපාරවල සිට බහු ජාතික සමාගම් දක්වා ව්‍යාපාරික ආයතනවල පවතින එවන් අක්‍රමිකතා වැලැක්වීමට ගත යුතු පියවර හා ක්‍රියාමාර්ග ද එම වාර්තාවේ අඩංගුය.
පුද්ගලික ආයතනවලට, රජයන්ට, අයෝජකයන්ට, පාරිභෝගිකයන්ට මෙන්ම අනෙකුත් අදාල පුද්ගලයන්ට පුද්ගලික ෙක‍ෂ්ත්‍රයේ පවතින වංචා හා අක්‍රමිකතා වැලැක්වීමට ගතයුතු නව තාක‍ෂණික මෙවලම් සහ පුද්ගලික ෙක‍ෂ්ත්‍රයේ ස්ථාවර ආර්ථීක වර්ධනයකට හා අදාල ආයතනවල දියුණුවට අනුගමනය කළ යුතු උපාය මාර්ගද එම වාර්තාවට ඇතුලත්ය.
