The Government Nursing Officer’s Association (GNOA) yesterday said that there were attempts by some individuals to circumvent the usual procedures followed in the appointments of nurses to hospitals and give a chosen few plum positions.
“The nursing graduates have finished their three year degree and are now waiting to be appointed to various hospitals in the island. This should be done according to the marks obtained by these graduate nurses and not on political pull or to favourites, which we hear were taking place at the moment,” said GNOA President, Saman Rathnapriya. “There are 319 graduates and they have to be given placements in a proper manner,” he said. Mr. Rathnapriya asked the Health Minister to look into the matter personally and take action against persons acting in violation of accepted laws.
He further added that the Association would have to take trade union action if no action was taken by the government to rectify these anomalies.
