Matale Assistant Elections Commissioner Dileepa Nishantha de Silva said that he had written to the Elections Commissioner asking him not to allocate money to the Matale police as they have failed to remove illegal election posters and cutouts from walls in the Matale district.
He said that although the police had given him an undertaking to remove illegal election propaganda material from walls it had been reported that they had failed to do so up to now.
He said that senior police officers in the district were summoned by him earlier and made aware about illegal election propaganda material and other election law violations. He added that election laws are being violated by all political parties contesting the general election.
