CP governor calls for explanation over delay in building complex

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa has called for an explanation from the contractors building the new Provincial Council complex at Pallekelle at a cost Rs. 400 million over the delay in handing over the building and not keeping to the deadline of November 2009.

The governor had an on the spot inspection with the contractors and the administrators involved in building the Complex.

The governor, after discussions with the contractors and officials, sought an explanation for the delay in completing the complex and handing over the completed building by the end of November — which is the agreed upondate for the handing over.  Work on the new complex commenced in 2007 after an elaborate ceremony.

This came about when Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake informed the council at the council meeting this week that the contractors had asked for another three months to complete the building and hand it over to the council.

Once this building is completed all the departments and ministries of the council will be housed under one roof, and most of the space at the Kandy Secretariat could be released for the use of departments which come under the Central Government.
