Background
Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) is a National Chapter of Transparency International (TI), the leading global movement against corruption. TISL raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Communicating to external stakeholders on the negative impact of corruption and programs conducted by TISL is key to creating awareness and reducing the occurrence of corruption. For this purpose, TISL has initiated the creation of a Communications Team that will be responsible towards formulating messages and communicating to diverse stakeholders to achieve the vision and mission of TISL.
Scope
This position supports ensuring availability of communication materials in Sinhala and implementation of TISL activities in local languages. The Programme Officer -Communication will support the Communications and Social Media Manager to implement the communications strategy and mainstream communication activities.
Core-Responsibilities
- Support the communications and social media manager to implement the Communications Strategy for TISL.
- Support staff to mainstream strategic communication across the organization.
- Support staff to maintain strategic communications with all stakeholders.
- Assist in writing, editing, and distributing content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other communications material regarding the organization’s activities, products and/or services and translate them in to Sinhala.
- Support to create effective online and offline content in order to achieve TISL’s communication objectives.
- Support to promote TISL’s Social Media.
- Facilitate the designing, planning and execution communication campaigns and events.
- Liase with the media, arrange interviews and gain maximum milage for the organisation’s communications materials.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database.
- Facilitate the communication activities of each project.
- Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
- Maintain the documentation of TISL related media articles, photographs, videos statistics on media reach etc.
- Support the development of website content.
- Support to ensure that all communication materials are trilingual.
- Provide support to ensure TISLS work, values and causes receives optimal visibility
- Carry out organization wide translations as directed by the manager.
- Draft progress reports and make presentations when required.
Teamwork and Resource Management
- Work together as the Communications team and collaborate with other teams.
- Maintaining a systematic and up to date record keeping, adhering to security protocols.
- Effective utilization of organizational resources.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- A graduate degree in a relevant field including social sciences, law or governance.
- 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge of how advocacy and research can be utilized in furthering TISL’s mission of combating corruption.
- A good understanding of how civil society functions.
- Networking skills with civil society and government counterparts.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills, with fluency in Sinhala
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to human rights, inclusivity and diversity.
- A sound understanding of principles of governance.
