Complaint lodged in Bribery or Corruption Commission against Sri Lanka’s new Chief Justice

Sri Lanka Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has filed a complaint in Bribery or Corruption Commission against the new Chief Justice Mohan Peiris charging that he had caused loss to State.

Convener of Voice Against Corruption Former JVP MP Wasantha Samarasinghe filed the complaint requesting an immediate investigation.

The plaintiff states in the complaint that Mohan Peiris caused a loss of Rs. 75.8 million to the State.

According to the complaint, Counsel Peiris has appeared in 2008 on behalf of Royal Fernwood Porcelain Company in a fundamental rights case pertaining to a due by the company to state.

After he was appointed the Attorney General in December 2008, he got the due by the company to State reduced to Rs. 2.6 million, the plaintiffs alleged.
