Chandima Muhandiramge, Commissioner of Local Government – Galle district highly commended the efforts of TISL to bridge the gap between people and administrators of local government authorities and pointed out that effective public participation in provincial administration and development projects should be a ‘must’.
The commissioner was participating at the inauguration ceremony of the joint programme conducted by TISL and Bope Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) to promote transparency and accountability in local government administration. It was held in Mega Gardens hotel in Beligaha, Galle recently.
Appreciating the TISL commitment, he pointed out that members and officials of the Bope Poddala PS will have the opportunity to learn new experiences through the senior and experienced trainers TISL has introduced. This programme is conducted with the aim of enhancing the service delivery of the PS through promoting values of good governance and democracy with the participation of three key players of the area – members, officials and the public.
Southern Province Councilor Wijepala Hettiarachchi, Deputy Commissioner of Local Government – Galle district Dileka Kudachchi, Former secretary of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Piyatissa Ranasinghe, Chairman of Bope Poddara PS C.S.Madugoda, secretary S.D.D.Dissanayake, TISL Executive Director S.Ranugge and several officials of the PS, media persons and civil society representatives numbering more than 80 were in attendance.
