Civil Society leaders in Badulla District ready to accept anti-corruption policy for their organizations

Civil Society leaders, who participated for anti-corruption training conducted in Badulla on 29 April, 2014 expressed their highest interest of adopting an anti-corruption policy into their organizations and building civil society coalition against corruption. All participants accepted that having a common anti-corruption policy for civil societies is an advantage for their involvements against corruption.

Mr Milan Perera, Executive Secretary of PIPS, said that “public trust on civil society organization works has decreased due to some corrupt activities of few civil society organizations. Adopting such anti-corruption policy with support of Transparency International Sri Lanka and continual monitoring by ourselves will help people to discover honest activists from wrong doers.

Civil society leaders further accepted that fight against corruption need to be done collectively. Adopting a common policy and building a coalition among those signatories’ would be a firm foundation for fight against corruption within the district. Participants were agreed to have a primary meeting in very short time following the matter was discussed within their organizations.

The training was organized by Shelter for Integrity Colombo centre with collaboration of Future in Our Hand organization in Badulla. 30 civil society leaders representing various sectors of the society were attended for the programme.
