Bribery Commission gets 1,637 complaints, probes 641 in 2010

The Commission to Investigate Allegations on Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had received 1,637complaints during the year 2010 and only 641 of them had been investigated, a document tabled in Parliament said yesterday.

The document tabled by Chief Government Whip Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena in response to a question raised by UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanyake said that a total sum of Rs 176,450,000 had been allocated to the CIABOC last year. The number of persons convicted during the year was 23.

The document also said that the Commission was currently fully functional.
