KANDY – An Assistant Manager of a State bank in Kandy, was remanded till October 16 by Kandy Additional Magistrate Ms. Thanuja Jayatunga for allegedly misappropriating Rs. 1.35 million.
The manager had credited to her bank account the funds from the account of a customer living in Japan, the Special Crime Investigation Branch of the Kandy Police Headquarters told Court.
The customer, who returned from Japan, found that the money he remitted to his account from Japan was not credited.
The customer complained to the Manager of the Bank and the manager in turn informed the police to investigate, police said.
Police, commencing investigations, took the assistant manager into custody and produced her in Court.
CI, Nipuna Dehigama, head of the Special Crime Investigation Branch, on the directions of Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne, DIG, Pujith Jayasundara and SSP, Ranjith Kasthuriratne is continuing with investigations.
