The Resource Book and Handbook on Investigative Journalism (IJ) released by TISL are making a huge impact on the training of regional journalists.
At a recent training programme held in Ampara, the trainees acknowledged that the inputs gained through these publications will be of immense value for their professional work. They pledged to work towards exposing corruption in their region using the knowledge gained at the workshop.
Twenty journalists in Ampara district representing the print and electronic media attended the three-day workshop held at ‘Monty Guest’, Ampara on May 11-13. This was the second workshop based on the training module developed by TISL in association with FES. The first was held in Polonnaruwa.
The workshop discussed issues relating to investigative reporting, bribery, corruption & good governance, and right to information. Particular attention was paid to the measures that should be taken towards the safety of journalists in unearthing corruption issues.
The resourcfe personnel at the workshop were Director of Training – Lake House C Dodawatta, Ravaya news editor Lasantha Ruhunage, TISL media officer Ananda Jayasekera and TISL web master Haritha Dahanayake.
The trainees represented Swarnavahini, Sirasa, Derana, ITN, TNL, Lankadipa, Dinamina, Lakbima, Moubima, Daily Mirror, Rivira, Hiru FM, Neth and Rangiri FM.
