Who we are

Transparency International Sri Lanka.
Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) is a National Chapter of Transparency International (TI), the leading global movement against corruption. TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it. TI has an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany and close to 100 Chapters worldwide.

Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) was established with the purpose of contributing to the fight against corruption in Sri Lanka. TISL commenced active operations at the end of 2002 and has since built a strong institution that has gained the trust of diverse stakeholders in the country, as a leader on anti-corruption. TISL functions as a self-financing, autonomous Chapter of TI with its own board of directors, strategic direction and priorities.

TISL’s preventive work focuses on promoting integrity, transparency and accountability in personal behaviors as well as in systems within the Government and among public representatives, public officials, private sector, civil society and the citizens by playing the roles of a knowledge leader, advocate, facilitator, convenor and mobilizer on anti-corruption. As TISL’s work on combatting ongoing corruption, TISL plays the role of a watchdog on corruption in Sri Lanka, through situation monitoring, fact finding, documentation and reporting, while continuing to demand accountability of perpetrators, coupled with the repatriation of stolen assets, election monitoring with a focus on misuse of public property and empowering the people with knowledge and tools to join the fight against corruption.

TISL develops its strategic plan in consultation with stakeholders every 5 years and reviews it every year, to keep up with the dynamic local and international contexts. TISL’s present strategic direction takes a holistic approach towards reaching the mandate by working in four sectors, namely, political sector, public service sector, private sector and community sector (Click the link to see details https://www.tisrilanka.org/sectors-thematic-areas/).

Our funding
TISL is funded through project funding and institutional funding provided by international institutional donors. Some of the project funding from institutional donors have been facilitated by the TI Secretariat.
