Trade unions of Sri Lanka Railways to complain to Bribery Commission of corruption at Railway Department

Sri Lanka’s railway trade unions are to lodge a complaint today with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption about corruption and irregularities in the Railway Department.

Secretary of the All Ceylon Railway Workers Common Services Union, Sumathipala Manawadu says that the union would hand over the complaint to the Bribery Commission requesting a probe into the corruption at the Railway Department.

He notes that a large number of services under the Railways have been outsourced to the private sector in an irregular manner.

Among the issues that the union would highlight are, permitting the private sector to add railway compartments to trains, the booking of seats in long distance train travels and the improper disposal of scrap iron belonging to the Department.
