The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption of Sri Lanka is awaiting legal advice on whether to pursue investigations against Public Affairs Minister Mervyn Silva.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice D. J. De S. Balapatabendi has said the legal department was yet to hand over the report on the possibility of pursuing an investigation against the Minister who is also the Kelaniya organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP).
However, the chairman has observed that in the event an investigation is carried out against the Minister, it would be kept confidential.
He has explained that the secrecy clauses governing the Commission would prevent details from being made public.
SLFP members of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha headed by the Council Chairman handed a file against Silva accusing him of being engaged in corruption in the Kelaniya area.
Silva also filed a bribery complaint against the Pradeshiya Sabha members and its Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera.
Silva was recently asked to appear before the Commission to make a statement to back his complaint.
