Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said that one fourth of the profit earned by the Ceylon Transport Board (CTB) was being wasted.
Speaking at the function to hand over 37 CTB buses that were modernized to the Tangalle Depot the minister said that money was being lost when bus conductors pocketed money instead of issuing tickets and also the selling of vehicle parts belonging to CTB buses by the employees of the Board.
The handing over ceremony was part of a programme to refurbish 1000 busses to coincide with the inauguration of the by the President’s second term in office.
