Pakistan’s illegal transactions revealed

Pakistan’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has recovered Rs.230 billion from illegal transactions during this year. The present members of the PAC recovered Rs.3.93 billion in 2006-07 and Rs.9.43 billion last year bringing the total recovered money to Rs.43.36 billion within last four years.

These facts and figures were revealed by Moosa Raza, PAC’s Additional Director addressing the 14th International Anti Corruption Conference (IACC) held in Queen Sirkith National Conference Center in Bangkok held last week.

PAC has taken action against 180 main defaulters on account of the irregularities. Among them were Secretary level bureaucrats, Ambassadors, ex-Generals of the Army and politicians as well as lower level officers, said Raza.

PAC is mandated to examine the accounts showing the appropriation of funds granted by the National Assembly for government expenditure. All members of the PAC are drawn from the political parties represented in the National Assembly of Pakistan.
