650 million rupees as overtime for postal workers! The figure was divulged by the Posts & Telecommunications Minister Mahinda Wijesekara himself. The reason is because the 2000 vacancies have not been filled. New recruitments may not have cost so much, says the Minister.

Golden Key depositors in protest rally

Around 1000 Golden Key depositors took to the streets of Colombo demanding that their money be paid. A petition was submitted to President Mahinda Rakapakse requesting him to intervene.

Pay without working

An official of the Public Complaints Investigation Unit of the North Central Province is reported to have taken his salary without being there for two years. He had also got paid over his salary scale.

A forest officer in bribery net

A forest officer attached to the Hatton regional forest office was arrested by the Bribery Commission while he was taking a bribe from a farmer promising to allow him to cultivate in a state land. The officer was remanded until 9 March by the Hatton magistrate.

Lalith Kotelawala remanded

Ceylinco Group Chairman Lalith Kotelawala and a director of the Golden Key Credit Card Company, Padma Nandani have been remanded until 11March by Mount Lavinia magistrate on 26 February over the alleged misappropriation of 26 billion rupees worth of deposits.

Most complaints against the Education Sector

The most number of complaints received by the Bribery Commission until 15 February are against the education sector. It was the most corrupt sector last year, according to Commission sources.
