Blood Bank issue
The alleged use of expired plasma kits for preserving blood at the National Blood Bank Centre has aroused much media interest in the past few weeks.
The main opposition party, the UNP has lodged a complaint at the Bribery Commission. A senior party Parliamentarian claimed that on a visit to the Blood Bank, he discovered 44 expired plasma kits.

The National Police Commission (NPC) has declined to step in to settle a major dispute in the Bribery Commission over the transfer by the IGP of two police inspectors investigating undeclared assets of a prominent politician.

Bribery Commission insiders say that moves are afoot to transfer the Police inspector in charge of investigations on allegations relating to assets of ministers. Around 20 allegations have been made against prominent ministers, chief ministers and provincial ministers.

Illegal admission of students
The principal of Ananda College has been ordered by the Chief Magistrate to hand over the documents relating to the admission of 64 students to grade 1, to the Colombo Fraud Bureau. The petitioner – a father who claims he bought a house for 10 million rupees next to the College boundary three years ago to get his son admitted – alleges that the 64 students were admitted by accepting fraudulent documents leaving his son out.
