The Ceylon Teachers’Service Union (CTSU) yesterday requested the Education Ministry to reveal to the people what happened to the money collected from school children and teachers to fund the Uthuru Mithuru Railway Project or the Northern Railway Development Project.

Secretary of the CTSU Mahinda Jayasinghe said that those who contributed this money, which was collected last July with the support of the Education Ministry, are in doubt as to whether the money was used for the project or for any other purpose. “We request those in responsible for collecting this money to reveal to the people how it was spent,” Jayasinghe added.

In reply to this allegation, Former Education Minister Susil Premajayantha stated that this money, which amounted to around 9 million, is now safe in bank accounts and will be transferred to the Sri Lanka Railways for the construction of a railway station at Elephant Pass soon.
