A team of several senior government ministers met Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka yesterday to discuss the re-poll to be held today at 38 polling stations in Nawalapitiya and in Trincomalee, according to Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

While assuring the EC of the government’s fullest cooperation at the re-poll these ministers had told Mr. Dissanayaka that President Rajapaksa had already given instructions to the police and the armed forces to maintain law and order and ensure that all election laws be upheld during the conduct of the re-poll. “President Rajapaksa has instructed them to apply the law equally when dealing with persons who try to sabotage the peaceful conduct of the poll, not taking into account whether he or she is from the UPFA or any other party,” Minister Alahapperuma said.

The Elections Commissioner was also warned of an alleged attempt by a defeated political party to disrupt the re-poll, he added.

Other members of the UPFA team that met the Elections Commissioner were Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Maithripala Sirisena and Susil Premajayantha.
