ele2010DailyMirror

Election monitors charged yesterday that some candidates had acted in violation of the election law by carrying out propaganda work after the official campaign period ended on April 5.

PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi told Daily Mirror that he received these complaints from Jaffna, Galle and Akkaraipattu.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) has received about complaints about plans for impersonation of displaced Muslim voters housed in the Puttalam district. A UPFA candidate has allegedly produced forged identity cards for this purpose.

Meanwhile, the election authorities have taken steps to deploy the Army and the Special Task Force (STF) to the Digamadulla district which is prone to election violence.
