Poster ban: PBOA to inform IGP of violations

privatebusDailyMirror

The Private Bus Operators Association (PBOA) yesterday said they will complain to the Inspector General of Police regarding private buses that display posters, stickers and other election propaganda material.

President of the Private Bus Operators Association, Gemunu Wijeratna speaking to the Daily Mirror said they would inform the IGP of the exact bus number that carries election propaganda material.

The Private Bus Operators appealed to the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka last week to impose a ban on politicians pasting election related posters on private buses.

Wijeratna observed the Commissioner had responded positively to their request but it had not been fully implemented by the police.

“There were few minor incidents reported since the Elections Commissioner implemented the appeal made by us; but the biggest problem we have is in the Gampaha district, as most number of cases are reported from that district,” he further added.
