Bribery Commission arrests several offenders

The Bribery Commission’s Colombo Investigation Unit headed by SP Somaweera Lokuge arrested several suspects on complaints lodged by the public in the act of accepting bribes.

An employee attached to a Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested by the unit while receiving a Rs.4000 bribe out of Rs.19, 000 due from a person he was helping to get a loan to repair his house.

In another incident, a woman from Yakkala had sought help from an employee attached to the Department of Registration of Persons. The employee had asked her to give sexual favours in return. The woman had lodged a complaint at the commission about the incident. The suspect was arrested when he went to the hotel that he asked the woman to come to.

An assistant police security officer was also arrested for allegedly producing less goda which was to be introduced as evidence before courts and also for arresting a person who was not connected to the case.

All the arrested suspects have been produced before court.
