Vote on Account – Govt. seeks Rs.360 billion

The Vote on Account for the first four months of 2010 will seek Parliamentary approval for an expenditure estimate exceeding Rs. 360 billion, says a Cabinet Memorandum titled ‘Vote On Account 2010’ issued by President Mahinda Rajapakse, as the Minister Finance and Planning.

The Ministry of Finance and Planning is seeking Cabinet approval to present recurrent expenditure estimated at Rs. 197.4 billion, capital expenditure at Rs. 158.9 billion and advance account activities at Rs. 6.2 billion in the Vote on Account to be presented thereafter to parliament.

The government is presenting a Vote on Accounts for the first four months of 2010 due to elections to be held next year and these expenditure estimates would be included into the new budget which would be prepared after elections.

The government has estimated that expenses for the first four months of 2010 would be over Rs. 362 billion.

However, while dealing with expenditure estimates, no account was given on the revenue side.

Copies of the Cabinet Memorandum titled Vote on Account 2010 were presented to the media at yesterday’s Cabinet briefing.
