Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) organized a panel discussion titled ‘The Role of Investigative Journalism for a Corruption-Free Country’ on the 10th of October 2023, in Colombo. The panel featured esteemed senior investigative journalist Lasantha Ruhunage, journalist and social media activist Tharindu Uduwaragedara, and human rights lawyer Swastika Arulingam, with senior investigative journalist Dilrukshi Handunnetti moderating the session.
During the two-hour discussion, the focus was on promoting a culture supportive of investigative journalism within newsrooms, exploring the challenges faced by contemporary Sri Lankan journalists in undertaking investigative stories, and emphasizing the pivotal role journalists play in uncovering corruption, waste, and wrongdoing in society. The panelists underscored the potent role investigative journalism plays in today’s Sri Lankan context and called for active contributions from journalists to hold public representatives and officials accountable to the people.
Notably, sixteen journalists participating in TISL’s Investigative Fellowship Programme 2022/23 were awarded certificates during the event. Senior journalists Dilrukshi Handunnetti, Sundara Nihathamani de Mel, Shihar Aneez, and Ram Kumar, who serve as mentors in the Fellowship Programme, were presented with memorial plaques as tokens of appreciation.
Further, a brand-new website, ‘ www.sathya.lk ,’ featuring the investigative stories produced by the Investigative Journalism Fellows, was launched during the event by TISL Executive Director Nadishani Perera.

‘දූෂණයෙන් තොර රටක් සඳහා ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදයේ කාර්යභාරය’ යන තේමාවෙන් ට්‍රාන්ස්පේරන්සි ඉන්ටනැෂනල් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආයතනය (TISL) විසින් සංවිධානය කළ සාකච්ඡා මණ්ඩපයක් පසුගිය අඟහරුවාදා (ඔක්තෝබර් 10) කොළඹ බණ්ඩාරනායක අනුස්මරණ සම්මන්ත්‍රණ ශාලාවේදී පැවැත්වුණි. ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදිනී දිල්රුක්ෂි හඳුන්නෙත්ති විසින් මෙහෙයවන ලද එම සාකච්ඡාවට, ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදී ලසන්ත රුහුණගේ, මාධ්‍යවේදියෙකු මෙන්ම සමාජ මාධ්‍ය ක්‍රියාකාරිකයෙකුද වන තරිඳු උඩුවරගෙදර සහ මානව හිමිකම් පිළිබඳ නීතිඥ ස්වස්තිකා අරුලිංගම් කථිකයින් ලෙස සහභාගී වූහ.
මාධ්‍ය ආයතන තුළ ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදයට අනුබල දෙන සංස්කෘතියක් ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීමේ වැදගත්කම, ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යකරණයේ නියැලීමේදී වත්මන් ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය මාධ්‍යවේදීන් මුහුණ දෙන අභියෝග, සහ රට තුළ පවතින දූෂණය, නාස්තිය සහ වැරදි ක්‍රියා හෙළි කිරීමට මාධ්‍යවේදීන් සතු තීරණාත්මක කාර්යභාරය පිළිබඳව මෙම සාකච්ඡාවේදී අවධානය යොමු විය. ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදයේ බලය අවධාරණය කරමින්, සාකච්ඡා මණ්ඩපයට සහභාගී වූ කථිකයින් පෙන්වා දුන්නේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දැනට පවත්නා සන්දර්භය තුළ මහජන නියෝජිතයින් සහ නිලධාරීන් ජනතාවට වගවන තත්ත්වයට පත් කර ගැනීම සඳහා මාධ්‍යවේදීන්ගේ සක්‍රිය දායකත්වය අවශ්‍ය වන බවයි.
TISL ආයතනය මගින් පවත්වන ‘ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදීන් සඳහා වූ සාමාජිකත්ව වැඩසටහන 2022/23’ හි සාමාජිකත්වය දරන මාධ්‍යවේදීන් 16 දෙනෙකුට මෙම අවස්ථාවේදී සහතික පත් ප්‍රදානය කරන ලදී. එම වැඩසටහනේ උපදේශකයින් ලෙස කටයුතු කරන දිල්රුක්ෂි හඳුන්නෙත්ති, සුන්දර නිහතමානී ද මැල්, ෂිහාර් අනීස් සහ රාම් කුමාර් යන ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ මාධ්‍යවේදීන් අගය කිරීම පිණිස ඔවුන්ට සමරු ඵලක ප්‍රදානය කරන ලදී.
මෙම වැඩසටහනෙහි සාමාජික මාධ්‍යවේදීන් විසින් පළ කරන ලද ගවේෂණාත්මක ලිපි ඇතුළත් ‘ www.sathya.lk ’ නමින් වන නව වෙබ් අඩවියක්, TISL ආයතනයේ විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂිකා නදිශානි පෙරේරා විසින් මෙම අවස්ථාවේදී එළිදක්වන ලදී.
ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදය පෝෂණය කිරීමට කැපවී සිටින TISL ආයතනය, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දක්ෂ ගවේෂණාත්මක මාධ්‍යවේදීන් බිහි කරලීමේ අරමුණින් ඔවුන්ට අවශ්‍ය වන සම්පත් හා අවස්ථාවන් අඛණ්ඩව සැපයීමේ තීරණාත්මක කාර්යභාරයක් ඉටු කරයි.
