Fertiliser issued to dead farmers
A massive racket where agriculture officials had allegedly cooked up accounts and robbed fertilizer meant for farmers has been bared with investigations revealing that the highly subsidized fertilizer had been issued to even dead farmers at Andiyagala in the Anuradhapura district. A. Wickremasinghe, Agrarian Services Director in charge of investigations, said records showed that fertilizer to the tune of Rs. 2.8 million had been issued in the names of dead persons while in some cases forged receipts had been issued.

Bribe to grant deed
A Mahaweli Unit Manager in Dehiattakandiya was nabbed by the Bribery Commission for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a person to issue a deed of land. The manager was arrested by a special team from Colombo while accepting the bribe near the Sandunpura army camp.

A suspect was prosecuted by Galkiriyagama police for fraudulently taking money promising to send them to Italy. Anuradhapura Magistrate ordered to be remanded.

A fraudster nabbed
A person who had fraudulently taken a huge amount of money from job seekers promising to give appointments in the port was arrested in Mt.Lavinia by the Special Criminal Investigation Unit of Moratuwa. The fraudster had defrauded Rs.2 50,000.

Security for Golden Key assets
