Need for trade unions to work together on RTI

Paying a visit to TISL’s legal aid centre,  ‘Suseri Sevana ‘ in Matara, Opposition Parliamentarian from the Matara district – Buddhika Pathirana  saw an opportunity for those with grievances relating to corruption issues to seek advice on how they could obtain redress.

“Every week I receive complaints from the public from Matara seeking legal assistance and  I can now direct them to the centre”, he told the staff members who welcomed the MP and briefed him on the activities of the centre.

‘Suseri  Sevana’  – a yet another TISL initiative in building a nation of integrity, is housed at no.17 Kalidasa Mawatha in Matara and operates a hotline – (041) 2233522 – to enable the public to easily communicate with it.

The Centre provides the public with the opportunity of seeking legal advice free of charge when faced with an incident of corruption while obtaining a service from a State institution. It mediates between the State institution and the complainant in order to find lasting solutions to the grievances of the public and strengthen the governance and service delivery of State institutions.
