The Mawilmada Grama Seva Officer of the Kandy Gangawata Koralaya Divisional Secretariat has been taken into custody on bribery charges.
A high-ranking officer of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption said that the Grama Seva officer in question had requested for a bribe of Rs. 5,000 in order to include a person’s name in the electoral list.
Speaking to Newsfirst, he noted that the officer was arrested upon accepting Rs.3,000 of the bribe amount, along the Aluthgamthota road.
The suspect has been placed in remand custody until tomorrow after being produced before the Magistrate’s Court in Kandy.
