Galle regional journalists trained in investigative journalism

Twenty two regional journalists in the Galle District attended a three-day workshop on identifying locally based issues and techniques of investigative journalism organized by TISL.

The journalists from print and electronic media were from the Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa, Galle, Nagoda and Batapola local authority areas.

At the workshop held at Citrus Hotel – Hikkaduwa, the principles of citizens’ media, public service media and investigative reporting were discussed. In addition, the journalists were made aware of how they can contribute towards improving the accountability of local authorities, how cases of bribery and corruption can be exposed, and how news can be obtained through new media.

The resource team comprised of C Dodawatta – Training Editor at Lake House, Lasantha de Silva – Uva Community Radio, and Shan Wijethunga, Ananda Jayasekera, Haritha Dahanayake and Jagath Liyanaarachchi of TISL.
