For the first time in its history, Ambalangoda Pradeshiya Sabha(PS) engaged with the public in preparing its annual budget and several proposals put forward by them have been included in the 2014 budget .
The public participation was a sequel to the awareness building campaign initiated by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) for leaders of the Community Based Organaisations (CBO) under the Ambalangoda PS on the preparation and monitoring of budgets in local government authorities. The workshop was conducted in Pathana in the 1st week of December last year.
The workshop presided over by Ambalangoda PS chairman, Pushpalal Kumarasinghe was also attended by S.M.Chandraseeli and N.H.Sujeewa Nilanthi of the PS budget department and CBO development officer Wathsala Liyanage.
After the initial briefings CBO leaders enthustically engaged in budget preparation and came up with more than 20 proposals. TISL’s Jagath Liyanarachchi, Ananda Jayasekara and Thilina Nuwan Pathirana conducted the sessions in the work shop.
